Old Isfahan Exhibition

Old Isfahan

400 years ago, around 1024 AH (1635 AD), during the Safavid era, Isfahan was the capital of Shah Abbas I and was in its heyday.

With its unique architecture, thriving bazaars, and lush gardens, the city was considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

Key aspects of Isfahan 400 years ago: Political and cultural capital: Isfahan was the center of the Safavid government, and Shah Abbas I ordered the construction of many magnificent buildings.

The city was also a center of science, art, and culture, and many scientists, poets, and artists worked there.

Architecture and urban planning: Naghsh-e Jahan Square (formerly Shah Square), the Abbasi Grand Mosque (formerly Shah Mosque), Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque, Ali Qapu, and Chehelsotun Palace are among the architectural masterpieces of this era that still stand.

Chaharbagh Street, with its tall plane trees and flowing streams, was the city’s main promenade.
